Hace un año la entrega de los premios Oscar fue unos de los últimos eventos que se celebraron a puerta cerrada, con una multitud reunida y sin hablar del COVID-19. Un año después, la ceremonia regresa con una lista de películas que casi nadie ha visto en la pantalla grande y que más bien ha disfrutado desde la comodidad de su hogar (bajo un encierro obligatorio).
La pandemia trajo un fin a la cuestión de si una película que se estrenaba en plataformas de streaming merecía competir por el premio más popular en la industria del cine, no porque la discusión llegara a una conclusión satisfactoria para ambas partes, sino porque de un día a otro no hubo otra forma de mostrar nuevas películas más que a través de estos servicios.
Tal vez por eso este año los premios se sienten un poco vacíos. A diferencia de los Grammys o incluso los Golden Globes donde también se premian a las series (algo que todo el mundo estuvo viendo en el encierro), las películas no han corrido la misma suerte, sin embargo aún hay algunas que son las favoritas de la crítica y de quienes sí las han visto.
Este año Mank, de David Fincher, lidera los premios con 10 nominaciones. En segundo lugar, con seis nominaciones, hay media docena de cintas: The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah Minari, The Sound of Metal, The Trial of the Chicago 7 y Nomadland, esta última siendo la favorita para la noche de los premios que se celebrará el próximo domingo 25 de abril.
