Mexico’s big attractive for its Pueblos Mágicos or Magical Towns. Due to their historical value and cultural heritage, they have earned the affection and preference among local and foreign tourists who plan a trip to visit them for a weekend getaway.
There are few things compared to grabbing a car and driving off to adventure with your best friends, couple or family. Many times due to lack of time it is impossible to carry out this type of activity, however, near the city there are destinations that shine for their authenticity, cultural richness and beautiful landscapes just a few kilometers away.
Tepoztlán
If you prefer to drive to the state of Morelos you will find this corner where adventure mixes with spirituality and tradition. Make sure you wear tennis shoes on your visit, because if you do not climb Tepozteco it is almost like not having gone to Tepoztlán. When you go down, refresh yourself with a delicious michelada and eat in one of its picturesque terraces.
Valle de Bravo
A place located between the forests and the mountains of Estado de Mexico. This stands out for its excellent views and unbeatable sunsets. There you can do activities such as paragliding, ride the zip lines, take a dip in the lake and eat a delicious dish at a local restaurant. You’ll love it.
Cholula
A space full of color, music and joy. In Cholula you will be able to taste the flavors of Pueblan cuisine while you visit its exceptional churches and discover the mysteries of its pyramid. Best of all is the view you will have of the Popocatepetl volcano throughout your journey. In cold months you can even see it snowed.
Malinalco
This place brings together beautiful landscapes, a very old historical legacy and an impressive pre-Hispanic cultural wealth. In this town, you can finde great small spots to eat, have a beer, visit the old churches and monasteries. You can walk through its old streets on foot, go to the ‘tianguis’ where you will find typical products of the region and buy wonderful handicrafts and textiles.
Taxco
Just two and a half hours from Mexico City is the magical town of Taxco de Alarcón, in the state of Guerrero. With a strong indigenous heritage, this place has a large number of tourist attractions and a gastronomic offer for you to spend a day full of experiences. Most Taxco visitors are attracted by the wide range of silver jewelry that this Magical Town offers. Saturdays are the perfect day to visit the flea market that stretches along the highway and several surrounding streets starting from the bus terminal.
Huasca de Ocampo
Just two hours from Mexico City, in Hidalgo, you will find this small town. In the morning you can visit the ex-hacienda of Santa María Regla, the Basaltic Prismas and Peña del Aire, among other places in the central area. You have to try the exquisite pastries called “pastes” and get on the tram to learn more about its history while you make the tour of this beautiful place.
